Author Susan Thomassen visited Storybook Cove and signed her book (for parents and caregivers to children) The Trouble with Tom: A Parent's Lesson on Letting Go.
Susan spoke about her book which is not just a how-to book on parenting. She told us not only how she found the answer to make her son's life and her entire family's life better, but how she took an emotional roller-coaster of a journey, living her joy and anguish as she battled her son's demons in order to find that answer. The Trouble with Tom is a triumphant story that many people will relate to, whether they have a troubled child themselves or have just watched a loved one go through a difficult time.
During Susan's years of working with parents of of troubled children, she recognized a common thread in many of her conversations -- the difficulty parents were having letting go of their child or even recognizing that was what they needed to do. Her experience of raising her own troubled child coupled with her life-long desire to write resulted in this moving, helpful book.
Susan is currently working with Bianca De la Garza of WCVB Boston and the Plymouth County District Attorney's office to establish a civil commitment of the convicted pedophile who assaulted her son. |
