STORYBOOK COVE CHESS WORKSHOP:
Chess with the Two Jeffs

One of the oldest board games in existence, chess still has valuable lessons to teach our youngest. How to plan ahead, how to win graciously, how to lose even more graciously. Jeffrey and Jeffery (it was a popular first name in the late 1960s!) love chess and will teach total beginners the beauty of this game, and will help middling players master the end game. The classes will be held on Tuesdays in March (1st through 29th), from 4 pm to 5:30 pm. Fee is $6 per class - sign up for all six and fee is only $25.  RESERVATIONS REQUIRED - SPACE IS LIMITED.

The classes are:

Tuesday, March 1:
* Learning How the Pieces Move (with a novelty of presentation that will help more experienced players convert their friends to the game)

Tuesday, March 8:
* Let's Start at the Very Ending (a review of end games with fewer pieces and faster play)

Tuesday, March 15:
* Winning and Losing in 4 Moves (a review of opening moves and the Fool's Mate)

Tuesday, March 22:
* The Point of Sacrifice (understanding the different values of the pieces, and when to sacrifice)

Tuesday, March 29:
* Double Moves and Dilemmas (knight forks and forced checks)

We will help Cub Scouts achieve their Belt Loop and Academic Pin requirements (http://bit.ly/ChessScouts).
