Macaroni for Breakfast features a child, named Mac, who has Asperger Syndrome, which is a high functioning syndrome in the Autism Spectrum. While most young children become attached to a blanket or a stuffed animal for security, Mac is attached to a box of Macaroni. Children with Asperger syndrome often find themselves fond of strange or unexpected objects. The story details Mac’s fondness for the box of macaroni, while exhibiting that, though he is different, he is not so different.

| NOTES ABOUT BOOK |
The question of "nature vs. nurture" will always remain debatable. Undoubtedly, however, children with Asperger Syndrome, which is in the Autism Spectrum, will have traits inherent to the syndrome. These children may fixate on and become attached to an unexpected or strange object, such as a spoon or a singular beach sandal. In Macaroni For Breakfast, author Erin Heffernan demonstrates that children affected with this disorder need not to be alienated.
Heffernan delivers an endearing and highly relatable children’s story in Macaroni For Breakfast. The hopeful tone exuded in this outstandingly sensitive work rotates around a child, named Mac, who has Asperger Syndrome. While most young children become attached to a blanket or a stuffed animal for security, Mac is attached to a box of Macaroni. The story details Mac’s fondness for the box of macaroni, while exhibiting that, though he is different, he is not so different.
The elementally simple yet exquisitely crafted prose of Heffernan, coupled with minimalistic crayola illustrations, make this deeply candid piece an excellent read aloud for youngsters as well as a visual treat.
